I was Ryu, a street performer juggling flames under strings of paper lanterns, drawing gasps from the crowd. But my focus shattered the moment her cheer squad took the makeshift stage nearby. Akira Sato led the ribbon dance, her petite frame slicing through the humid night in a red yukata tied high to allow flips and spins. At 5'2", she was a porcelain doll come alive—fair skin glowing under lantern light, long straight black hair whipping like a banner, dark brown eyes sparkling with shy determination. Her movements were precise, playful, each twirl sending the silk ribbon arcing through the smoke-hazed air. The crowd cheered, but I couldn't tear my gaze away. She faltered just a beat, cheeks flushing pink, before recovering with a giggle that carried over the din. My heart kicked harder than the drums. When her squad bowed out, I packed my torches and wove through the festival-goers, drawn like a moth....
